All American spinoff in development at The CW

The CW is looking to expand the All American universe with plans for an All American spinoff in the works set to follow one college-bound character!

As first reported by TVLine, The CW is looking to make its breakout football drama the latest series to spawn a small-screen franchise with an All American spinoff currently in development at the network. While details are said to still be in the early stages, it is expected the eyed All American spinoff would be introduced as a backdoor pilot in the show’s upcoming third season.

Should The CW choose to move forward with the series, All American would become the latest CW series to spawn a spinoff as no one quite loves a spinoff like The CW. Currently, the network consists of several spinoffs including The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman which are all set within the Arrowverse launched by Arrow as well as The Originals offshoot Legacies.

Geffri Maya eyed to star in All American spinoff

Interestingly, the series would not star one of the show’s regular cast members but rather a character introduced in season 2 who appeared in a recurring role.

Although plans are still in early development, The CW’s eyed All American spinoff is said to be centered around Geffri Maya’s character Simone Hicks, who was first introduced in season 2. Per TVLine, the series would look to follow Simone as she looks to further her education against the backdrop of a historically Black university.

Beyond Maya’s involvement, it is unclear whether the planned spinoff would feature any additional members of the cast or whether the network might eye any crossovers should they move forward with the show — similar to how they staged mini-crossovers between Riverdale and its spinoff Katy Keene.

Additional information is expected as we get closer to All American season 3 which premieres Monday, Jan. 18 on The CW.
