9. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

So many Christmas stories come and go over the years that it has to be admired when one successfully stands the test of time as a revered classic that, no matter what, ends up being universally appreciated by all every year. One triumph of the genre is without a doubt the classic Dr. Seuss story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Several adaptations of the cherished children’s book have been developed, including the timeless 1966 animated television film all the way to the 2018 Computer-animated feature. But the one that many hold very dear to their hearts as an essential family-friendly film to be enjoyed every year as part of the holiday traditions is the 2000 live-action big-screen version How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The Ron Howard directed endeavor is narrated by Sir Anthony Hopkins and features a masterful performance from its star, the one, and only Jim Carey. Also in the talent-filled lineup are Jeffrey Tambor, Taylor Momsen, Bill Irwin, Molly Shannon, and Christine Baranski. The incredibly enthralling story was a magnificent thing to behold in live-action. The movie garnered three Oscar nominations, including Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Bets Costume Design, and Best Makeup, which it won. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the highest-grossing holiday films ever made, and the fact that it’s available on Netflix is a gift subscribers everywhere should be thankful for this season.
