15 most overrated Netflix shows of 2020

Despite the state of the world in 2020, new shows and fresh seasons of our favorites dropped in our watch lists on Netflix every month without fail. Whether they lightened things up for a few weeks or flew under the radar, each of these Netflix shows left their mark one way or another. Unfortunately, some were more well-received than others and some fell victim to the greatest downfall of all: overhype.

Now that’s not to say that the most overrated Netflix shows of 2020 aren’t worth watching. Millions have had a blast watching shows like Tiger King, Space Force and Emily in Paris, but you might not be thinking about them much longer than the time it takes to blaze through every episode. After all, “overrated” is a relative term that could mean any number of things to any number of viewers.

Let’s take a closer look at 15 Netflix shows that, even though they made our 2020 a little bit more bearable, could be deemed overrated.

Overrated Netflix shows: White Lines

Seasons: 1

Created By: Álex Pina

Starring: Laura Haddock, Nuno Lopes, Marta Milans, Daniel Mays, Laurence Fox, Angela Griffin, Juan Diego Botto, Pedro Casablanc, Belén López, Francis Magee, Tom Rhys Harries

Why It’s Overrated: In 2020, there were a striking number of new Netflix shows. Throughout the spring, summer and fall, it felt that there were more series to keep up with than ever. Naturally, some shows got lost in the cracks, which isn’t a new affliction, but during a year when we were watching a lot of TV and clinging onto the ones that rose to popularity, less should definitely have been more. White Lines suffered from overcrowding, getting stuck in the background.

Laura Haddock stars as Zoe Collins, whose brother Axel (Tom Rhys Harries) was found dead two decades following his disappearance in Ibiza. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Zoe travels to Ibiza to look into the mystery surrounding her brother’s disappearance and death. White Lines premiered its 10-episode first season in May to mixed reception from critics. The series, which was canceled, falls in line with many mystery thrillers of late that appear to have more substance than soap.
