Netflix movies and shows:12. After Life

Wait, don’t skip this one! Sure, After Life has the word “dark” in its genre description (dark comedy), but that isn’t always a bad or negative thing.

I have included the Netflix original “dark” comedy on this list for a few reasons. For starters, let’s face it, not everyone can simply tune in to watch a sappy rom-com or lighthearted series. Some of us are so used to a different genre that we can’t go back.

This, however, doesn’t mean we can’t watch anything motivational. I believe After Life is a series that fits right in the middle of happy and dark!

Another reason After Life is on this list is because, at the end of the day, the series has a lot to teach audiences. When I watched it, I cried. No shame. Some were sad tears because I can relate to a heavy loss and some were happy tears.

For those not in-the-know, After Life follows Tony, a man who lost his wife to an illness. He has given up on life and is now very selfish, stubborn, and rude. The way he sees it, kindness is pointless. Tony forgets all about consequences and does and says as he pleases. It’s truly sad, yet relatable to see.

Towards the end of the first season, Tony decides to give life and love another chance, but the journey wasn’t easy and it’s far from over.

If you need to have a good cry and reflect on 2020, and then get up feeling inspired to live your best life, this is the show to watch.
