Best Christmas movies set in each state

HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. California: The Holiday

Release Year: 2006

Directed By: Nancy Meyers

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black, Eli Wallach, Edward Burns, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, Kathryn Hahn, John Krasinski

Sure, there are endless movies set in California, plenty of them holiday-themed. But are they as beloved as the classic Nancy Meyers romantic comedy The Holiday? Technically, The Holiday also takes place in England, which only adds to its Christmas appeal. Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet star as movie trailer producer Amanda Woods and Daily Telegraph columnist Iris Simpkins respectively. Both women have found themselves in the midst of messy breakups and facing impending loneliness right around the holidays, the perfect time to get away.

Looking for an escape from their own reality, the pair meet online and agree to swap houses for two weeks, with Amanda living in Iris’s cozy English cottage and Iris living large in Amanda’s Los Angeles mansion. The Holiday follows the women as they find renewed senses of self and, what else, love. Although the movie isn’t overtly Christmas-centric, there’s no better time of year to watch the mid-aughts favorite than around the holidays. The film garnered middling reception from critics but was a worldwide box office hit, proving its standing as an adored holiday favorite.
