HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. There’s no such thing as too much Robin Williams. We’ve already spent a toy-filled holiday with the beloved comedic genius actor in Idaho, but fans of Williams can also spend a proper Christmas with the late legend in the midwest. Williams stars in A Merry Friggin’ Christmas as Mitch Mitchler, the father of Boyd Mitchler (Joel McHale). As is the reason for the season, Boyd must spend the holiday with his estranged and eccentric family, including his parents. However, a slight mishap locks Boyd in the car for an impromptu road trip with his father, Mitch.

Upon realizing that he’s forgotten his son’s presents at home in Chicago, Boyd hits the road with Mitch from Wisconsin to retrieve them before Christmas morning. Of course, the father and so duo have plenty to talk about and unexpected shenanigans to get into on the eight-hour round trip excursion. A Merry Friggin’ Christmas received mostly negative reception from critics, but as the first of three posthumous releases featuring Robin Williams, it’s surely a bittersweet Christmas comedy with the treasured performer and one to be cherished in spite of its flaws. We should be so lucky to take a road trip to and from Wisconsin with Robin Williams.
