Best Christmas movies set in each state

HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. For the most part, many of the movies featured on this list of holiday movies set in each state represent the same kind of Christmas. But if you’re willing to travel to West Virginia with Feast of the Seven Fishes, you will discover a holiday celebration unlike your own or finally see your family’s traditions on-screen. Based on the 2005 graphic novel of the same name by writer-director Robert Tinnell, Feast of the Seven Fishes takes place in the rust belt near the Monongahela River in West Virginia as a large Italian-American Catholic family gathers for their traditional Christmas Eve dinner.

Feast of the Seven Fishes centers on Tony (Skyler Gisondo), a working class boy, who brings home rich, Protestant Ivy Leaguer Beth (Madison Iseman) for the holiday, sparks fly amid the ups and downs of his family’s Feast of the Seven Fishes. Unlike most of the movies set in other states, Feast of the Seven Fishes was actually filmed in its setting of West Virginia. The film also takes place in 1983, giving it a period flair with MTV and other pop culture references aplenty. If you’re looking to change up your movie lineup this Christmas, take a break from the classics and pull up a chair at Tony’s feast of the seven fishes in West Virginia.
