Best Christmas movies set in each state

HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. Before the Hallmark Channel grew into the booming Christmas movie destination it has since become, the network offered quaint little nuggets of inspiration like Christmas in Canaan. Based on the book by country music star Kenny Rogers and Donald Davenport, Billy Ray Cyrus stars in Christmas in Canaan as Daniel Burton, who lives in the rural Texas town of Canaan in the 1960s. The film tells the story of two little boys, DJ (Jacob Bair) and Rodney (Matt Ward), who don’t get along and come to physical blows because of their mutual dislike.

However, DJ and Rodney forge an unlikely friendship with a little help from their loved ones in the form of a hard-earned lesson. The boys also come together to help a wounded puppy, all while learning the true meaning of Christmas in a touching story with themes of hope and friendship in the face of racism. The film premiered on the Hallmark Channel in December 2009 and featured the country music star performing the theme song, “We’ll Get By Somehow (We Always Do).” Christmas in Canaan was followed by 2011’s Christmas Comes Home to Canaan, which also starred Billy Ray Cyrus celebrating Christmas in the small Texas town.
