HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. What’s more part of the Christmas spirit than traveling back to your hometown and reuniting with old friends and high school crushes? Just Friends stars Ryan Reynolds as Chris Brander, an outcast who’s hopelessly in love with his best friend, Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart). However, he’s been friend-zoned and publicly humiliated. Chris leaves his New Jersey town and doesn’t return for 10 years, when he’s a successful music executive connected to pop star Samantha James (Anna Faris). Although he’s changed a lot on the inside and outside, Chris still holds a candle for Jamie.

Just Friends follows Chris as he attempts to win his former best friend back as more than just friends while back home in New Jersey (though filmed in Canada). The film was released during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2005 and has been a cult favorite Christmas selection ever since. Namely, Anna Faris delivers one of her most iconic comedic performances in Just Friends as the vapid, clueless and over-the-top hilarious Samantha James. Some aspects of the film have since grown outdated, as you can expect from a mid-aughts comedy, but there’s something that’s still so charming about the holiday rom-com all these years later.
