Best Christmas movies set in each state

HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. The word “holiday” might be in the title of Last Holiday, but it’s not necessarily a Christmas movie. But Christmas is in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it? Because of its thematic magic, Last Holiday (not unlike The Holiday) feels a lot like a holiday spectacle. Queen Latifah stars as a reserved department store employee Georgia Byrd, who discovers during Christmastime that she can afford treatment for her terminal illness. Choosing to live life to the fullest, Georgia leaves her home in New Orleans, Louisiana to have the European adventure of a lifetime.

Last Holiday finds Georgia relishing in the finer things life has to offer as hers quickly comes to an end, though she realizes the one thing she’s missing from back home: her crush, Sean (LL Cool J). Of course, not to spoil the ending, the romantic comedy isn’t as dark as its premise would suggest. The remake of the 1950 British film bombed at the box office, but Queen Latifah’s performance was praised by critics, as she’s often the highlight of anything she’s in. She will have you believing in not only yourself but miracles in the truly endearing Last Holiday.
