HOME ALONE - Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (Macaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. Hawaii: Same Time, Next Christmas

When the calendar turns to winter and the weather gets chillier, it’s only natural to long for an escape to somewhere sunnier that requires, say, fewer layers… Somewhere like Hawaii. In all honesty, there should be more Christmas movies set in Hawaii, because there’s more to Christmas than snow and Santa Claus, right? Coincidentally, ABC’s 2019 holiday movie Same Time, Next Christmas stars Lea Michele as Olivia Anderson, a woman who spent her childhood Christmases in Hawaii, where she met her annual holiday sweetheart Jeff Williams (Charles Michael Davis).

But now that their lives have moved on and Olivia’s on the road to marriage with Gregg (Bryan Greenberg), meeting up again in Hawaii during their respective Christmas trips complicates the star-crossed reunion. Same Time, Next Christmas employs the familiar beats of a holiday television movie, leaning heavily on charm and romance, as well as the likability of its charming leads. To its credit, the movie features an LGBTQ+ couple, which is somehow something of a first for Christmas TV movies. You’ll be so enchanted by the romantic Hawaiian getaway in Same Time, Next Christmas that you’ll want to watch it at the same time next Christmas, too.
