Best Christmas movies set in each of the 50 states
There’s no time of the year that feels more magical than Christmastime, and that’s thanks in part to the vast collection of holiday movies for putting the spirit in the season. From fantasy adventures to family dramas to romantic comedies, Christmas movies can transport you from reality to somewhere extraordinary like Santa’s workshop or a blissfully aspirational winter wonderland of a small town.
But no matter how fantastical Christmas movies might seem, there’s one set in each of the 50 states in the United States of America. Between the Hallmark Channel romanticizing the magic of snowcapped close-knit communities and big-screen romps finding the holiday cheer in big cities, each state has been represented in some of the most popular, as well as the most underrated, Christmas movie favorites.

From David E. Talbert, the director of Netflix’s new original Christmas movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, the 2016 family comedy Almost Christmas takes place in Birmingham, Alabama. Danny Glover stars as retired automotive engineer Walter Meyers, a widower still grieving the loss of his wife as the holidays roll around. Trying to make Christmas feel somewhat normal, Walter invites his four grown children (Kimberly Elise, Gabrielle Union, Romany Malco, Jessie Usher) and the entire family over for a traditional celebration.
However, the family’s constant arguing begs for a miracle for them to make it through the holiday in one piece. With heart and humor, Almost Christmas brings the relatable ups and downs of ringing in the holidays with your family and features an excellent cast of stars. The film earned middling reviews from critics, though managed to make a decent showing at the box office with a worldwide gross of $42.6 million against a $17 million budget. While it’s not quite at annual classic status quite yet, Almost Christmas is the perfect watch for Alabamians.
