What is Mank on Netflix about?

Mank is set to premiere on Netflix early next month and it sounds like a must-see for any film buff. Depicting the making of Citizen Kane, the film has an all-star cast and an amazing director.

Mank release date

Mank had a limited theater release that began earlier this month on November 13. The film will be released on Netflix on December 4. Since Netflix movies must have a limited theater release in order to qualify for an Oscar nomination, this strategy makes me think that the streaming platform wants Mank will bring home the gold during awards season.

Mank cast

Mank will star Gary Oldman as the titular character, Herman J. Mankiewicz. The film also stars Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies, Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst, Tom Burke as Orson Welles, and Lily Collins as Rita Alexander, Herman’s secretary. Funnily enough, American writer Upton Sinclair will be portrayed by the one and only Bill Nye!

Mank will also feature Arliss Howard, Tom Pelphrey, Sam Troughton, Ferdinand Kingsley, Tuppence Middleton, Joseph Cross, Jamie McShane, Toby Leonard Moore, Leven Rambin, and Jeff Harms.

The film was directed by filmmaker David Fincher, who also helmed Gone Girl.

Mank plot

As reported by ScreenRant, the film will follow American screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he writes the script for the critically-acclaimed biopic Citizen Kane. Mank will also focus on the production setbacks that the film faced leading up to its release and Mankiewicz’s tumultuous partnership with filmmaker Orson Welles.
