Dolly Parton will star, very fittingly, as an angel in her new Christmas movie on Netflix. Christmas on the Square is a great movie to kick off your holiday season viewing. This film is a holiday musical that finds Dolly up against a scrooge of sorts who is set out to ruin Christmas.
When can you watch Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square?
You can watch the new Netflix movie at12:01 am PST (that’s 3:10 am EST) on Nov. 22, 2020.
So, you can stay up very late or get up extremely early to catch some Christmas cheer.
The trailer tells us to have a Dolly holiday and is filled with magical Christmas music written by Dolly herself.
The film follows Regina Fuller (Christine Baranski), who is a cut-throat businesswoman that is trying to evict all the businesses on the square during Christmas. The Angel (Parton) is sent to teacher Fuller about generosity and love. The film has a delightfully cheesy quality that we need to see this Christmas.
This movie is directed and choreographed by the great Debbie Allen. Additional cast members include Jeanine Mason, Josh Segarra, Mary Lane Haskell, Mary Donnelly Haskell, Jenifer Lewis and Treat Williams.
Parton told USA Today that she has always wanted to write a Christmas musical. She also shared that the idea and story came from executive producer Sam Haskell who was going to write a book with this storyline. Haskell is also Parton’s business partner and she was able to convince him to use this story as a Christmas musical instead.
This is just the thing we need to cheer us up during the totally unexpected year we find ourselves in. A little holiday cheer and some beautiful Christmas themed songs will go a long way to keeping our spirits up this holiday season.
