Is Krampus on Netflix?

Krampus is one of those movies to watch if you want to spice things up and add a little scary fun to your holiday viewing. But is it among the Netflix movies you can watch this Christmas?

Sadly, no.

However, there are places you can stream it, which we’ll get to, but first, let’s look at what Krampus is about.

What is Krampus about?

From the outside, the Engels look like most other families getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Maybe from the inside too, if we were all privy to the inner workings of everyone’s households during the holidays.

While Max, the son (Emjay Anthony), is excited about Christmas, Santa and presents, his enthusiasm is soon dashed by his stressed out bickering parents, Sarah, his mom (Toni Colette), and Tom, his dad (Adam Scott).

His sister, Beth (Stefania LaVie Owen) is in her own world, and his cousins wreck all of his merriment, which is the last straw. Max gives up on Christmas and rips up his letter to Santa.

Apparently, that’s all the invitation “Santa’s shadow,” Krampus, needs to be invited into the Engel home.

Or did Max’s grandma, or Omi (Krista Stadler) as they call her, who he’s closest to, summon the ancient spirit like she did when she was a girl? She tells the story of how Krampus came and dragged her whole family into the underworld but left her “as a reminder of what happens when hope is lost, when belief is forgotten, and the Christmas spirit…dies.”

As she also says, “He and his helpers did not come to give, but to take.”

They do it again, even though the Engels try to fight back. It’s no use. They’re no match for the hoofed and horned anti-Saint Nick and his Dark Elves.
