Alaska: Kate Trefry

I know what you’re thinking. There is no way there is a connection between Alaska and Stranger Things. Welp, you are wrong! One of the writers, Kate Trefry, is from Alaska. So while it’s not the strongest connection, it’s definitely there.

But Trefry is not just one of the writers, she also appeared in an episode and it was quite possibly the saddest episode of the series ever. You know which one it is. It was season 2 episode 8, “The Mind Flayer,” aka the episode Bob Newby (aka Samwise Gamgee) died and we all drowned in a pool of tears.

Who did she play in the episode? She acted as a stand-in for the Demodog that killed Bob. Yes, she was only a stand-in, but I don’t know if we can ever forgive this Alaska-native for being part of a scene that broke everyone’s heart.

As a writer, she had a hand in writing seventeen episodes including the season 2 premiere episode, the Halloween episode where the boys dress up like the Ghostbusters, and “The Sauna Test” where they throw Billy into the steam room. She has also been a story editor for quite a few episodes including the season 3 finale.
