Best Christmas movies on Netflix: How the Grinch Stole Christmas
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that you can’t have a winter wonderful holiday watch list without an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas somewhere in the recommendations. It’s simply just not done. We’ve chosen the live-action version with Jim Carrey in the lead role.
Let this film take you on a trip to the town of Whoville where Christmas is a very big deal. The Whos have the holiday spirit practically flowing through their veins and nothing, absolutely nothing, gets in the way of their celebration of the happiest time of year. It’s a fact that grates on the Grinch’s nerves. Their cheer and good tidings raise his hackles as a former member of their society who was shunned for being different.
When Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) tries to rectify this by nominating the Grinch for Holiday Cheermeister, the mayor of Whoville takes it upon himself to remind the Grinch of just how unwelcome he is in town. In retaliation, the Grinch plots to steal everything that makes Christmas in Whoville special. When he’s done he plans to leave not a single gift under the tree, nor a meal undisturbed, or a bulb left on the house.
What’s the point of embracing the Whoville Christmas spirit if the townspeople are going to be hypocrites? To the Grinch, there’s no point at all, but the big heart of Cindy Lou Who may just get him to change his mind.
