If you love movies like The Big Short and Money Monster, then considering checking out The Hummingbird Project on Netflix.

The movie premiered in 2018 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in the United States in March of this year. As told by The Guardian, the film follows a group of stockbrokers and software coders who are in a race against time to set up a high-frequency trading (HFT) operation for their competing companies.

For those of you who don’t know (I certainly didn’t), high-frequency trading refers to a series of data techniques that allow finance corporations to have high turnover rates. Basically, the faster they get information about the stock market, the more money they can make. Mere seconds can make a huge difference in the stock market and making the best deals can make or break a company’s revenue.

As reported by IMDb, The Hummingbird Project stars Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, and Salma Hayek. Hayek has silver-gray hair in the movie and it’s giving me strong Carla Gugino in The Haunting of Bly Manor vibes.

The. movie was recently added to Netflix. If you’re wondering whether or not The Hummingbird Project is based on a true story, then you’ve clicked on the right article.

Is The Hummingbird Project based on true events?

The plot of The Hummingbird Project is not based on a true story. The characters depicted in the film are entirely fictional, although the topics and communication systems discussed in the film are based on reality. An internet connectivity company called Spread Networks was actually able to complete a fiber-optic cable similar to the one depicted in The Hummingbird Project in 2010.
