If you love historical fiction, then I have some great news for you. A new series called Barbarians premiered on Netflix three days ago. The show is based on the real-life Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. Featuring drama, war, strategy, and ancient customs, the series is a must-see for any history buff. Barbarians is currently at #3 on Netflix’s Top 10 most popular list.

What is Barbarians about?

The series takes viewers on a journey to the past, all the way back to 9 AD. It chronicles what led to the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, during which an alliance of Germanic warriors vanquished the advancing Roman army. There are six episodes in the first season.

The series is in German, but an English voiceover is provided and there are subtitles in several languages available.

Barbarians stars Jeanne Goursaud, David Schütter, Bernhard Schütz, Gaetano Aronica, Jeremy Miliker, Bence Ferenczi, Tibor Milos Krisko, Eva Verena Müller, Nikolai Kinski, Matthias Weidenhöfer, Sergej Onopko, Nicki von Tempelhoff, Florian Schmidtke, and Denis Schmidt. The series also features Laurence Rupp as Arminius, a real Germanic chieftain whose knowledge of Roman warfare proved instrumental in winning the battle.
