Is Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 happening?

Many were probably skeptical when news came forth that Netflix was rebooting the iconic docuseries Unsolved Mysteries. But the streaming network has managed to put out two captivating volumes of thought-provoking mysteries leading many subscribers to wonder what the future holds in regards to Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3.

As of right now, Netflix has not officially renewed the original series for another volume, but it’s still early days as the second volume was only released in October 2020.

When speaking with Newsweek, series creator Terry Dunn Meurer revealed that another season had been discussed, and they already have some ideas of what mysteries they’ll focus on.

"“We have thought about it. We have ideas. We have some really great stories that we feel are strong stories. So, we are ready to tackle that.”"

It’s hard to imagine Netflix not making more episodes of the iconic true-crime series that is just as good as it was when it first aired back in 1991. Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 quickly made its way up the charts at Netflix, ranking in at No. 2 on its second day in both the top ten TV shows list and Netflix overall.

The show not only spreads necessary awareness to these strange occurrences but also has led to investigations being reopened. Unsolved Mysteries is an instantly riveting series, but it’s also a beacon of hope for those out there that need answers. Fingers crossed Netflix doesn’t lead Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 become a forgotten cold case file.

Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 release date

There is no release date for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3, and one will probably not be uncovered any time in the near future. While there was only a three-month gap in between volumes 1&2, fans will, unfortunately, have to wait much longer for the third installment.

Filming the first two volumes of Unsolved Mysteries started in early 2019, with post-production going into the summer of 2020. With that time frame in mind, it may be plausible that Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 could arrive sometime in 2022, but that’s all speculation at this time.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed things, especially in the world of production. Many aspects are affected, including safety protocols and travel measures slowing down the process of the development of any project. Meurer discussed how this could affect Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 with Newsweek.

"“Production is starting to come back and with a lot of Covid protocol for sure. It takes some time for us to develop the stories and scout the story’s outline, the story’s people before we actually go into production.”"

There is no telling if and when Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 will arrive, but when it does, fans will be eager to binge it all the second it’s available.

Unsolved Mysteries doesn’t have a recurring cast, and every iteration features a new story with different people, so there is no telling what sort of individuals will make up Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 And even though the show is hostless, the glimpse of the legend himself, Robert Stack, in the opening credits keeps his presence felt throughout the entire affair.

There is no official synopsis for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3, and considering that there has been no news regarding a renewal, it’s safe to assume that anything involving what could happen in future episodes is virtually unknown at this time.

Meurer mentioned to Newsweek, saying how she wanted to continue to look at stories from all over the globe for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3.

"“We would want a worldwide reach. I think we would have a smaller footprint out in the field. But we do want to continue to shoot all the stories on location because we feel it makes all the difference in terms of the visuals of the story.”"

She went on to state to Newsweek the importance of being on location to give subscribers a more authentic and engaging experience, allowing them to really soak in the story and provide everyone with enough information to be able to help solve the ordeal if they are in a position to do so.

"“In the mix of stories, you can really get a feeling that these were shot on location and actual locations, and that is what we want to do. So, we will work very hard to make sure we can still do that somehow. We’ll reduce the footprints if we have to, we will go into some bubble, but we are determined to figure that out.”"

The stories never disappoint, and everyone will be excited to see what’s in store for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3.
