Apparently, being in a movie doesn’t always help your career. Just ask Alaina Pinto, a news anchor who was fired for appearing in Adam Sandler’s latest Netflix flick, Hubie Halloween.

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet, Hubie Halloween stars Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Maya Rudolph, Kevin James, Noah Schnapp, Rob Schneider, Michael Chiklis, Kenan Thompson, and Peyton List.

The movie is about a man named Hubie who loves celebrating Halloween in his hometown of Salem despite being frequently ridiculed by the people in his community. However, when the celebration is threatened, it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween. Hubie Halloween is a typical Adam Sandler project, but Alaina Pinto’s employers weren’t too happy with it.

As reported by People, Pinto appears when the characters are watching a segment for a fictional news outfit called Wake Up Boston. Real-life news anchor Alaina Pinto briefly appears as a news anchor named Erin. The scene features Pinto wearing a Harley Quinn costume, with the other anchors also dressed as the comic book villain. In real life, Pinto worked as an anchor at WHDH 7 News, a television station in Boston.

Hubie Halloween premiered on Netflix on October 7, and Pinto announced via Twitter on October 15 that she had been fired from WHDH 7 News. Evidently, appearing in the film violated Pinto’s contract.

You can check out Pinto’s tweets about the incident below.

I feel like real news anchors appear on fictional shows pretty often, so this is surprising to me. If you’ve seen The Boys, then you know that people like entertainment reporter Maria Menounos and journalist Thomas Roberts appeared as themselves.

I wonder how exactly Pinto violated her contract, but it’s still unfortunate that she lost her job over such a brief cameo.
