How does The Haunting of Bly Manor end?
The Haunting of Bly Manor comes to a satisfying conclusion in the ninth episode of the Netflix series, titled “The Beast in the Jungle.”
There are spoilers ahead for The Haunting of Bly Manor. Please read after you have finished the series.
At the beginning of the episode, it’s revealed that Hannah, the caretaker of the house, has been dead all along. It’s why she has been acting so weird for the full season. She is trapped in the same cycle that Peter, Rebecca and all the other ghosts at Bly Manor are stuck in.
After Rebecca tanks Peter’s plan, Rebecca tells Dani and Flora to leave Bly Manor. On their way out, Dani is grabbed around the neck by the Lady of the Lake. She drags Dani through the house until she finds Flora.
When she sees Flora, she drops Dani and picks up Flora, thinking it’s her daughter. Then, she heads back to the lake. Dani, using some quick thinking, says the words, “It’s you. It’s me. It’s us,” to the Lady of the Lake, who accepts Dani’s invitation to join her inside Dani. Yeah, it’s weird, but that’s really the only way to describe it.
Dani saves Flora, and in the process, she breaks the curse of Bly Manor, freeing the ghosts from the tether to Bly Manor.
Miles and Henry survive their encounters with the Lady of the Lake and Peter. Owen finds Hannah’s body in the well later.
Dani and Jamie decide to start a life together in America. They live happily for a number of years, but Dani begins to be unable to keep the Lady of the Lake at bay inside of her. Before Dani kills Jamie and others, she leaves and returns to Bly Manor. Then, she drowns herself, which makes her the new Lady of the Lake, ending the vicious cycle of revenge once and for all.
That would have been a satisfying ending, but we got another twist!
Who is the narrator in The Haunting of Bly Manor?
Carla Gugino, who starred as Olivia Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, is the narrator of The Haunting of Bly Manor. For the whole Netflix series, it’s unclear which character she is or how she knows the story.
In the final scenes, it’s revealed that Gugino is Jamie, the gardener who fell in love with Dani.
That’s not the biggest twist, though.
The big twist is that Jamie is telling the story to Flora, Miles and Henry at Flora’s wedding! I’m sure some of you probably put that together at the beginning of the series.
It’s also revealed that Jamie has been living her life hoping to see Dani again. She leaves the door of her hotel open and fills the sink and bathtub up with water, hoping she’ll see Dani in the reflection.
Jamie falls asleep in a chair facing the door. The show ends with Dani’s hand on Jamie’s shoulder.
So, that’s how The Haunting of Bly Manor comes to an end.
