31. Dolly Parton: Here I Am

Release Year: 2019

Directed By: Francis Whately

Starring: Dolly Parton

Release Date: Tuesday, Oct. 6

If you’re a diehard Dolly Parton fan, the documentary Dolly Parton: Here I Am better be at the top of your Netflix queue in October. As if you couldn’t already get enough Dolly, the film tracks the highs and lows of the country music sensation’s life and career through conversations with friends and, of course, the legend herself. Dolly Parton was last seen on Netflix in the Emmy-nominated anthology series Heartstrings, the perfect companion piece to the must-watch documentary Dolly Parton: Here I Am, which begins streaming on Oct. 6.

30. Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine

Release Year: 2020

Directed By: Natasha Lyonne

Starring: Sarah Cooper

Release Date: Tuesday, Oct. 27

For much of quarantine (a.k.a. 2020), things on social media have been rather bleak. But one of the brightest spots was the viral lip sync videos from author and comedian Sarah Cooper, which satirized the blasphemous and often dangerous things our current president says daily. As Cooper’s videos continue to go viral online, it’s only natural that the one person who’s managed to make us laugh and move the social commentary needle forward comes to Netflix.

In her debut Netflix comedy special Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine, the comedian teams with director and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne as well as executive producers Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens and Paula Pell. The special finds Cooper breaking down issues of politics, race, class, gender and more in vignettes, interviews and sketches with an array of special guests (perhaps even some of the executive producers). Without question, Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine is the can’t-miss comedy event of the fall.
