Halloween movies and shows: 20. The Roommate

This movie will have you singing Mariah Carey’s song “Obsessed” after watching it. And though it’s not the most terrifying movie on this list (by far), it’s still a fun one to add to your list for jump scares and laughs.

The Roommate follows Sara (Minka Kelly), a new college student in Los Angeles who is eager to explore the big city. Sara meets her roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester) and they quickly become friends, but Rebecca is a tad more fond of their friendship than Sarah, which quickly escalates. Soon, Rebecca becomes jealous as Sara begins to make other friends.

The movie didn’t do so well with critics at Rotten Tomatoes as it only has 3%, ouch! Still, as I mentioned, the movie won’t offer any scares, but good laughs.

Halloween movies and shows: 19. Paranormal Activity

Unlike The Roommate, the Paranormal Activity franchise will have you thinking about it long after you watch it. In fact, some will give you nightmares, especially the first movie, Paranormal Activity.

Now, not all movies from the franchise are available to stream on Netflix. But lucky for your Halloween needs, Paranormal Activity is! The movie follows a young couple, Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat), as they begin to be hunted by a supernatural being in their own home.

The movie is presented via “found footage,” one of the first hit films to join the found-footage-craze, and it’s one of the best.
