There are so many movies on Netflix that sometimes it can be hard to keep track. One such feature is a 2016 film called The Take, also known as Bastille Day, which is currently at #3 in the U.S. on the streaming platform right now. If you’re wondering what The Take is about, then you’ve come to the right place.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie focuses on a rogue CIA agent and a transient pickpocket who must team up in order to stop a group of individuals who plan to rob the French National Bank.

The Take cast

The Take stars Idris Elba as Sean Briar, a CIA agent, and Richard Madden as Michael Mason, an American petty thief living in Paris. The movie also features the talents of Charlotte Le Bon, Eriq Ebouaney, and José Garcia.

Viewers will recognize Idris Elba from films such as Molly’s Game, Pacific Rim, and Beasts of No Nation, as well as his role as Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Elba has appeared in television series such as The Wire, The Big C, and Turn Up Charlie.

Richard Madden is best known for playing Robb Stark on Game of Thrones. He has appeared on a variety of television shows including Barmy Aunt Boomerang, Hope Springs, Sirens, Klondike, and Medici. Madden was also great as David Budd in the series Bodyguard.

The Take synopsis

The film follows Michael Mason as he steals a woman’s handbag while living in Paris. Unbeknownst to Mason, the purse was filled with explosives. When the bomb detonates and four people are killed, Mason is apprehended by CIA agent Sean Briar after they catch him carrying the woman’s purse on camera.

To help clear Mason’s name and stop another attack, the two men must team up to catch the real culprits.

The Take age rating

The Take is rated R for the presence of violence, some nudity, and foul language.
