Netflix adds 33 new movies and shows this week

A new week is here (we made it through another one!) and that means Netflix is adding a ton of new movies and shows. Not everything may be new to you, but a lot of it is new original content. Whether you’re looking for a new season of a Netflix show, a new Netflix movie, or a new series, the streaming service has you covered on all fronts.

On Wednesday, Sept, 16, season 2 of Criminal UK hits Netflix. The series, which featured Hayley Atwell and David Tenant last season, covers a whole new group of suspects and their interrogations at the hands of detectives. This season includes Kit Harington, Kunal Nayyar, and Sophie Okonedo. I loved this show last season and can’t wait to see what happens in the new episodes.

If you’re more in the mood for a movie, one of the most anticipated Netflix releases, The Devil All The Time, also comes out on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The film stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Hayley Bennett, Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke, and Sebastian Stan. The story revolves around Arvin (played by Holland) who is trying to protect the people he loves while the corruption in his small town is circling around them. This definitely seems like something everyone will be talking about.

If you’re more in the mood for a thriller mystery, Ratched will premiere on Netflix on Friday, Sept. 18. The series is all about Nurse Ratched who was first featured in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The series stars Sarah Paulson as the young version of the nurse we all know and fear. She takes a job at a mental institution and soon becomes jaded and turns into a monster when treating her patients.

I’m hoping this doesn’t use the mental-asylum-horror trope that so many scary movies and shows rely on, but we’ll all have to wait and see. If nothing else, we know Sarah Paulson will be amazing!

If you’re looking for something a bit lighter in tone, season 9 of Call the Midwife is also coming to Netflix this week. You can check it out on Tuesday, Sept 15.
