Netflix adds 23 new movies and shows this week

A new week is here (we made it!) and that means Netflix is adding a bunch of new movies and shows to their lineup. Whether you’re looking for a new movie, a new series (or two), or an old favorite, the streaming service has something for everyone this week.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Cuties AKA Mignonnes is coming to Netflix. You might have heard of this film due to the controversy around the way Netflix first advertised it. The movie is about Amy, a young girl who joins a dance group at school and quickly begins to figure out what it means to be a girl.

Netflix first put out a poster that sexualized the young girls and didn’t represent what the movie was about. They have since apologized but that didn’t stop the director of the film from receiving death threats. Based on the reviews, this is a super cute movie that’s worth watching!

If you’re more in the mood to binge-watch a series, there are two new ones coming to Netflix this week. The first, Julie and the Phantoms, comes out on Thursday, Sept. 10. It follows Julie, who finds an old record and when she goes to play it, she releases the ghosts of three musicians. She becomes their lead singer and the band becomes bigger than ever.

The other series coming out this week is The Duchess. It hits Netflix on Friday, Sept. 11. This comedy series stars Katherine Ryan and is all about an unconventional single mother raising her daughter in London while trying to balance relationships and deciding if she should have another kid. This looks hilarious.
