The Haunting of Bly Manor gets an October 2020 Netflix release date

The second installment of The Haunting anthology, The Haunting of Bly Manor, will be coming to Netflix on October 9.  Netflix made this announcement and included a teaser trailer to get the buzz going for this new chapter.

Bly Manor is set in England in the 80s and follows a governess who takes a job caring for two children in a country estate that is, of course, haunted. They drew inspiration from the works of Henry James, specifically The Turn of the Screw, from 1898. The series was created by Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game) and produced by Trevor Macy (Oculus, Eli),  who worked together on the first season, The Haunting of Hill House,  as well.

The teaser starts with a child singing, and children in horror films or shows generally add to the creep factor.  Then we add in some haunted dolls in an attic, a well, a child coming out the water at night, along with that haunted-looking dollhouse, and you have the makings of a great horror series.

Check out the teaser below.

Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Kate Siegel, cast members from Hill House, will also star in Bly Manor. They will play new characters with a new storyline, which is a unique style that should make for an exciting season. New faces joining in this second season are Rahul Kohli, T’Nia Miller, Catherine Parker, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Amelie Smith, and Amelia Eve.

With a Halloween season release date, The Haunting of Bly Manor is sure to garner high viewing numbers for Netflix. Many horror movies that were scheduled for an October 2020 release date have had to postpone until October 2021 due to the filming shutdowns. The viewers of the horror community will be happy to have something new and creepy to view during the season.

Last fall, Flanagan had this to say about Bly Manor in an interview with Entertainment Weekly :

"It’s scarier, it’s a lot more frightening, just on a visceral level."
