Lucifer and Chloe try to crack a case Lucifer season 5, episode 1

Lucifer season 5 is finally here! We knew we missed the characters, but I’m not sure we knew just how much until they appeared in our screens again after so long in season 5, part 1. Let’s recap the first episode, titled “Really Sad Devil Guy.”

The highly anticipated season opens with Lee (Jeremiah Birkett) who we remember from other seasons. Lucifer pays him a visit and we soon realize he’s been murdered and this is his personal Hell.

Once Luci pieces Lee’s death together and learns he was murdered in Los Angeles, he begins to miss Chloe. Not that a single day goes by when Luci doesn’t think about Chloe, but this moment is special.

What better way to feel connected to Chloe than by playing detective and solve Lee’s murder? Let’s recap the first episode of Lucifer season 5, part 1 by highlighting the five biggest takeaways!

5 takeaways from Lucifer season 5, part 1: Episode 1

1. Mazikeen is Chloe’s new BFF

While Lucifer tries to crack the case from Hell, Chloe has her work cut out for her in Los Angeles. Maze is helping, as she has taken over Luci’s old role as a consultant. Maze is her old fun self, but we do quickly learn how upset she is about Eve and Lucifer leaving her.

Since both Maze and Chloe feel abandoned, they quickly bond. Maze has even gotten Chloe to loosen up a little! It used to be all work for Chloe, but now she’s actually dancing and having a good time — and at Lux Nightclub nonetheless!

2. Amenadiel has taken over Lux

Lucifer left Lux unattended, but Amenadiel stepped up and took over. This is something I never thought I would see. Remember Amenadiel used to scold Lucifer for being in such a place? Now he’s the angel in charge.

Before we can judge Amenadiel for his decision, we learn he is trying to catch drug dealers and other criminals. Dan is tired of Amenadiel’s minor reports, but Amenadiel is too adorable! He’s just trying to do some good so his son can grow up in a safe place.

3. Baby Charlie

We didn’t get to see Linda play the role of mom for too long in Lucifer season 4, so it’s wonderful watching her be so caring and attentive towards Charlie. She has him signed up for STEM classes, yoga, Chinese lessons, you name it!

Ella and Dan tell Linda that every baby is special in the eyes of their parents, but Linda insists that Charlie truly is “special,” oh boy don’t we know it!

4. A message for Chloe

To help Chloe solve Lee’s case, Lucifer sends a demon to a dying man’s body to give Chloe a clue. This is the first time Chloe hears from Lucifer since he left.

Meanwhile, as Lee continues going through his Hell loop, he tells Lucifer that this could be Lucifer’s own Hell and not his. Lee may have missed his chance to make things right and be with the people he loves, but Lucifer still has a real shot. Lucifer is furious, he insists he is in Hell for the right reasons and tries to convince himself that he should stay put.

5. Lucifer’s twin brother

In the middle of a shootout, “Lucifer” appears to save the day. Chloe runs to hug and kiss Lucifer, but you can tell something is up. Now, viewers may know this isn’t really Lucifer, we are aware it’s  Michael, Luci’s twin brother, but can Chloe tell?

Chloe asks Michael if everything is okay because he “feels” different. Michael tells her that, while it’s only been a few months for her, to him it’s been thousands of years. Chloe accepts that and hugs him tightly.

Before it’s officially revealed to the audience that this isn’t the real Lucifer, we see each character once more.

Linda and Amenadiel are focusing on being present with Charlie, instead of teaching him a lesson he doesn’t need to learn yet or chasing bad guys off. We see Ella really is attracted to bad guys, she wasn’t kidding, yikes! We’re predicting heartbreak in her near future.

Speaking of heartbreak, we see Dan depressed over Charlotte. As positive as he tries to remain, at the end of the day, he is still mourning her death. Maze is also not in a good place. She arrives at Lucifer’s condo and destroys his piano out of anger.
