Watch Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman on Disney Plus tonight
Hugh Jackman may have initially made a name for himself in the States as Logan in X-Men, but he has branched out since then. You’ll soon get to watch him in The Greatest Showman on Disney Plus.
The 2017 movie is finally getting to Disney Plus at midnight PT on Friday, Aug. 14. That means all you East Coasters like me will be waiting until 3 a.m. It’s worth the wait, though, especially for those with families.
This is a musical, but unlike Hamilton, it’s not all on a stage. It’s more like Les Miserables or the standard Disney animated movies you’re used to.
What is The Greatest Showman about?
For those who found this movie slipped under the radar back in 2017, you may be wondering if this is even for you. If you love Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya, or just musical movies in general, let me tell you that it’s a must-watch.
The Greatest Showman is a musical biographical movie about P.T. Barnum. You’ve heard of him. He’s the man who made the circus what it is today in the United States. He also helped to bring it around the world.
The idea wasn’t to make fun of people who were different but to show off their amazing differences. He wanted to bring people in to see the creativity and skill. That’s what the movie focuses on, a look at Barnum’s dream and the risks he took to reach it. This certainly wasn’t an easy dream to achieve, only managing to get the loan for it in the first place through some sleight of hand.
While having an excellent soundtrack, the movie also benefits from its outstanding cast. Zac Efron plays Philip Carlyle, Michelle Williams is Charity Hallett-Barnum, and Zendaya is Anne Wheeler. Set in the 19th century, this is more than just a movie about a circus. It’s one of social standing, race, and love.
It’s a must-watch for the whole family. If you’re struggling to find something for family movie night, you’re covered with The Greatest Showman.
The Greatest Showman is coming to Disney Plus tonight.
