Project Power starring Jamie Foxx premieres on Netflix tonight

Netflix is releasing a fantastic original superhero movie tonight! Project Power is coming to Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m. ET) on Friday, Aug. 14.

Superheroes and summer just seem to go together. This summer, Netflix is giving us an original action movie, which is classified as a superhero film even if the superhero effects are only temporary.

How are the superhero powers only temporary? A former soldier (Jamie Foxx) teams up with a cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to discover who is behind a dangerous pill that gives the user random and temporary superpowers. The team partners with a young drug dealer (Dominique Fishback) to dig deeper into the drug world to take down Project Power, the manufacturer of these dangerous pills.

The Netflix movie has been a long-awaited release for superhero and action film fans. With the success of the wildly popular action films Extraction and The Old Guard, both movies that released this summer, Netflix is the king of the summer in action films.

In the trailer, we get a good look at some of the effects the pill can give the user, including strength, invisibility, super-strength and bulletproof skin, while others can experience a deadly effect. The results of the pill only last for five minutes, but it has given criminals the upper hand, which has caused the extreme rise in crime.

We also learn that Foxx’s character, Art, has an even more personal reason to go after Project Power. They have his daughter. So, Art, along with Frank (Gordon-Levitt) and Robin (Fishback), try to set right the wrongs this pill has caused in their city.

The buzz around this film is very positive, and fans who would generally be viewing the summer’s most significant releases in the theater are excited to get something new in this genre, and Netflix is here to deliver.
