The small town of Serenity is home to some big-time drama on Sweet Magnolias, and there’s a reason it’s become one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. The series stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley, and the friends are true ride-or-die companions through the toughest moments of each other’s lives. Unfortunately for them, there’s a lot of those moments.
With the final episode of season one, though, we did get some answers. That being said, we were also left with one major cliffhanger. For those trying to catch up ASAP, this is the Sweet Magnolias season one ending explained.
What happened at the end of Sweet Magnolias season 1?
In the show, main character Maddie experiences a painful divorce, but ultimately, ends up striking up a relationship with her son’s baseball coach, Cal. However, by the end of Sweet Magnolias, that too is on the rocks, due to him seemingly pressuring Maddie’s son into a baseball career. Maddie’s friends are her support system through the tumultuous season, but they also have problems of their own.
At the end of Sweet Magnolias, Maddie’s friend Helen realizes she needs to leave her boyfriend Ryan because he’s never going to change his mind about having children.
Meanwhile, Maddie’s ex-husband decides to attempt to repair his relationship with his family. While it’s going to be a slow burn, it seems his intentions are good.
The final few minutes of the show are the reason fans can’t wait to see what happens in season two, after being left with a total cliffhanger. When Maddie’s son gets into a violent car crash, it appears there is a second, unidentified passenger in the car who is even more injured. While fans have their guesses, it’s tough to know where the plot will lead us.
For now, fans will just have to exercise some patience and see what season two has in store for us! Thankfully the next season has been confirmed by Netflix.
