David Schwimmer provides new update on when the Friends reunion will be filmed
Friends fans have heard rumors of a reunion for years now, but it was finally confirmed earlier this year when the show’s main cast—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc—announced they’d be filming an unscripted special for HBO Max. The Friends reunion was expected to premiere along with the streaming service in May, however due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, it was pushed back.
The Friends reunion has yet to be filmed, though executives hoped they’d be able to shoot it by the end of the summer. With July coming to an end, however, fans are getting restless as to any new updates for the special.
Earlier this month, Phoebe Buffay actress Lisa Kudrow assured everyone that they’re on track to shoot in August, and now, Ross Geller actor David Schwimmer is also weighing in with a more realistic take.
While making a virtual appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Schwimmer said they’re still planning on filming next month, but fans should be ready for possible setbacks in that schedule. “It’s supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August, but honestly we’re going to wait and see another week or two if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do,” the actor explained. “And if not, then we’ll wait until it’s safe.”
In the same interview, Schwimmer gave his personal take on the “We were on a break” argument, which fans know is in reference to when Ross hooked up with someone else after Rachel suggested they take a break. Some fans believe it should’ve been considered cheating, while others think he wasn’t in the wrong.
“Yes, it’s no question, they were on a break,” the actor confidently told Fallon, defending his character. Too funny!
While it’s unfortunately entirely possible that the reunion will be pushed back again, at least the stars of the beloved show are always down for a virtual appearance to share some behind-the-scenes details, along with their own Friends opinions.
