Eric Andre’s stand-up special premieres on Netflix on Tuesday, June 23

Comedian and TV show host Eric Andre’s first stand-up special, Legalize Everything, is dropping on Netflix on Tuesday, June 23.

Andre is primarily known for creating and hosting the Adult Swim show The Eric Andre Show, lending his voiceover talents to various animated TV shows and movies (the Netflix original series DisenchantmentThe Lion King) and performing in live-action television comedies like Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 and Man Seeking Woman.

Andre’s humor, going by moral alignment, can be classified as “chaotic neutral.” The Eric Andre Show employs shocking pranks, absurdism and a penchant for hyperactive visual and audio editing techniques, representing the in-your-face comedic sensibilities of millennials and Gen-Zers.

But the loud, surreal tones of the late night talk show spoof rise to meet Andre’s unbounded levels of personal energy, which propel the show forward and make it so oddly rewatchable. Indeed, it has proven to be a bastion of Adult Swim’s programming and its YouTube clips undoubtedly frequent the screens of present-day young adult hangouts.

So why gear up to watch Andre’s special? It’ll certainly be interesting to see how his stage presence differs from the show’s vibe (especially sans crazed editing effects).

I could also wax poetic about Andre, which would maybe go “something something wild attitude illuminates the speed and intensity of humanity’s collective frenetic mindset something something,” but he’s also bound to be just plain hilarious, too.

It should also be mentioned that Andre is having a bit of a cultural moment! Netflix recently announced they will be releasing Bad Trip, a movie that Andre has produced, written and in which he stars alongside Tiffany Haddish and Lil Rel Howery.

As of this writing, Netflix has not disclosed when Bad Trip will drop, but they describe the movie as, “a hidden-camera comedy about two best friends who pull pranks on a cross-country road trip.”

Finally, Adult Swim has renewed The Eric Andre Show for a fifth season, which will premiere later this year.

Be prepared for an Eric Andre-filled TV landscape in the coming months, and in the meantime, count down the days to the premiere of his special, Legalize Everything, on June 23!
