All Day and a Night

All Day and a Night is written and directed by Joe Robert Cole, who also co-wrote the screenplay for Black Panther.

This Netflix original movie tells the story of Jahkor Lincoln, played by Ashton Sanders, who is serving life in prison for murder. The film follows Jahkor throughout his life and the situations and events that brought him here.

This movie has an incredible cast, including Sanders, Jeffrey Wright, Regina Taylor, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Isaiah John, Kelly Jenrette, and Shakira Ja’nai Paye.

The film didn’t get great reviews, but I think most viewers will like this movie.

The Half of It

Netflix has a bunch of good coming of ages movies, and The Half of It might just be the best of all those movies. Alice Wu wrote the screenplay for the film and also directed the movie that stars Leah Lewis, Daniel Diemer, and Alexxis Lemire.

In the film, Ellie Chu, played by Leah Lewis, is hired to help Paul, played by Daniel Diemer, to help him write a love letter for Aster, a fellow student played by Alexxis Lemire. Then, Ellie continues to help Paul be more appealing to Aster, although Ellie actually has a crush on Aster, as well.

This movie is so good! It’s must-watch on Netflix! If you watch any of these movies, The Half of It is probably the one I’d choose for you.

The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds is already one of my favorite Netflix movies yet. Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani have such good chemistry. And, I’ve always been a fan of the “we have to clear our name” comedy. There are some fresh new twists in this one that I haven’t seen in others.

In the film, Rae and Nanjiani star as Leilani and Jibran, a couple who break up while driving in New York City. Shortly after, they find themselves in a manhunt to find the person who ran over a guy on a bicycle with their car. Now, they have to clear their names and prove their innocence by finding the guy that committed the crime.

Originally, The Lovebirds was supposed to be released in theaters, but it moved to Netflix because of the coronavirus pandemic. I really hope we see The Lovebirds 2 on Netflix!

Bonus pick: Da 5 Bloods 

This movie is not exactly underrated, but Spike Lee’s new Netflix movie, Da 5 Bloods, premieres on Netflix on Friday, June 12. You don’t want to miss it!

The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mélanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Pääkkönen, and Jean Reno. It tells the story of four Vietnam veterans who go back years later to find their former squad leader and find a long-lost treasure, according to Netflix.

This is going to be one of the biggest Netflix movies of the year!
