Netflix’s Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is the most popular documentary series

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is a new Netflix documentary series about the serial rapist and sex trafficker and convicted sex offender. The series premiered on Netflix on May 27, 2020, and it’s the second-most popular movie or show on Netflix right now and the most popular documentary.

The docuseries is based on Filthy Rich: A Powerful Billionaire, the Sex Scandal that Undid Him, and All the Justice that Money Can Buy: The Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein, a book written by James Patterson, Tim Malloy and John Connolly.

The four-episode series follows the investigation into Epstein in Palm Beach all the way through his death in jail. Multiple victims of Epstein and his cohort share their stories for the documentary.

This  Netflix original documentary series is incredibly difficult to watch. It could be triggering for some individuals given the graphic nature of Epstein’s actions and the victims’ stories.

While I don’t think there is much new information shared in the documentary about Epstein and his actions, hearing from the victims was hard to watch and listen to, but I think it was very necessary. As I’m sure you’re all aware, Epstein died in jail while waiting for trial. Many of his victims never had the opportunity to share their stories to the general public. This documentary gives some of them an opportunity.

The documentary series also offers evidence against many high profile people involved with Epstein, including Prince Andrew, Alan Dershowitz, Ghislaine Maxwell, and more.

I was sort of familiar with the case against Epstein from reading the news, but I did not understand the miscarriage of justice when Alexander Acosta, the  U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, offered Epstein a deal despite the overwhelming evidence against Epstein. I don’t understand how that happened or why it took so long for that deal to be voided because they violated the victims’ rights.

If you’re looking for a new documentary series on Netflix, it looks like Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is very popular right now. Again, it is very hard to watch in many ways, but it’s also important to watch to understand the victims, let them share their story, and understand the system in place that allowed Epstein to prey on young women and kids for so long.
