What’s the difference between HBO Max and HBO NOW?

HBO Max vs. HBO Now: What’s the difference? We break it down.

HBO Max just launched last week, and people are still trying to figure out the differences between the different offerings from HBO.

Below, we shared the difference between the two streaming services.

HBO Max

HBO Max is the newest platform that offers 10,000 hours of premium content, and it’s basically bundling ALL of HBO together with a bunch of other shows and movies.

These shows and movies are largely provided by WarnerMedia and offers many originals and exclusives like the TV series Friends. So, you get everything from HBO plus the MAX, which is all the extras and includes items from WarnerMedia.

Some of the other included movies and series are the Harry Potter movies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

And, HBO Max has promised 30 or more originals as well. Love Life, starring Anna Kendrick, is available now as the first original scripted series. It was so well received that HBO has accelerated the release dates.

HBO MAX just added a bunch of new movies and shows on June 1.

HBO NOW

According to HBO, HBO NOW is offered by HBO, and what makes this unique is that it is a standalone service that doesn’t require a cable or satellite provider. NOW give you unlimited access to series, documentaries, and specials that are HBO originals, along with the selection of movies HBO currently offers.

You can also purchase NOW through other services you may subscribe to like Hulu as an add-on. Another feature is that NOW also offers simultaneous streaming between members of your household. And, since this is a monthly subscription you can always opt-out anytime.

You also still get access to the episodes as they air. If Game of Thrones is on TV at 9 pm, you can view it at 9 pm. They only delay you may experience is with perhaps a live sporting broadcast, but the delay will be minimal.

HBO GO

Some of you may be wondering what HBO GO is, as well, and how that factors into things. HBO GO is the streaming service that you can access if HBO is provided via your TV provider, like Comcast, Dish, etc.

If you subscribe to HBO through your cable/satellite company, you can use HBO GO. It has all the same movies and shows as HBO and HBO NOW, but it doesn’t have the same content as HBO MAX.

So, with many choices, HBO seems to have a service for everyone. You’ll just have to decide which one is the best for you.
