Do you ever just have no idea what to watch so you just throw on a show that’s definitely not in your demographic but it’s the kind of light watching you need? No? Well, if you relate to that sentiment at all, or you’re already a fan of family sitcoms, you should give it a shot this month with the final season of Alexa & Katie. The Emmy-nominated but underrated sitcom returns to Netflix for its final run of episodes in June, and it’s sure to be a bittersweet farewell for fans. But it’s never too late to start watching a new series (even if you think you’re too old for it).

Alexa & Katie follows lifelong best friends Alexa (Paris Berelc) and Katie (Isabel May) as they take on the world and life with each other by their side. The series begins with Alexa undergoing treatment for cancer while also juggling the everyday worries of starting high school. Alexa gets through with Katie’s support and reciprocates in tenfold for everything she’s going through, too. In the first half of season 3, Alexa wants to leave cancer in the past, but someone new in her life might make that transition difficult, and Katie’s pressure for the future requires her best friend’s help.

Alexa & Katie first premiered on Netflix in March 2018, returning for season 2 later that year and the first half of season 3 last December. While the series doesn’t get much coverage or conversation, Alexa & Katie scored a nomination at the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Program and also received an honor in 2019 at the 12th Television Academy Honors. Even though these new episodes mark the end of the series, there won’t be any cliffhangers since the writers knew it was the final season ahead of time. Don’t miss the last eight episodes of Alexa & Katie when they join the complete series for streaming on June 13.
