After a long wait, HBO Max went live today, May 27. The new streaming service is offering a week-long free trial to check out what they have to offer.
After the trial period, the monthly fee is $15. HBO Max includes everything available on regular HBO but also consists of a variety of other choices exclusive to the streaming service.
There are tons of good shows available to stream, but you can’t go wrong with the five shows we picked below.
5 best TV shows on HBO Max right now
Friends
For fans of the TV series Friends, HBO Max will be the only streaming service where the series is available to stream. According to reports, HBO paid a whopping $425 million to secure this series.
Friends had been available on Netflix for many years until this new deal was made. The series is one of Netflix’s top viewed second only to The Office, according to People.
For many fans of Friends, this may be the reason they will subscribe to HBO Max. This series is a go-to show to watch repeatedly for a lot of fans, and it is wildly popular, and not just for the people who watched it as it originally aired on TV from 1994-2004.
This series has characters you can relate to even during different stages of your life. Many fans can see themselves in at least one of the characters, if not a combination of traits from multiple personalities.
The Big Bang Theory
Another big-ticket TV series HBO Max has acquired is The Big Bang Theory. The streaming service paid $500 million to stream this series, according to reports. When the series initial aired, it received mixed reviews, but during its second and third seasons, critics started to take notice of how popular the show had become.
Now, it has generated quite the cult following, and many fans can not get enough of this series. The series is listed as American’s most loved and most hated TV series. This often happens with series where the ones who love it can’t understand those who hate it, and the ones who hate it have no idea what the lovers enjoy about the show.
Rick and Morty
The first three seasons of Rick and Morty are available to stream on HBO Max. The show is also available on Hulu, and the fourth season is available only on Adult Swim. The new seasons will release on the streaming services about five months after the finale airs.
This series is one of many animated series designed for adult viewers. Its followers are die-hard, and even though you can see this series on Hulu as well, it will give fans a reason to check out HBO Max.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
One of the more family-friendly choices would be The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This will be a great one for nostalgia and for parents and grandparents to introduce to the younger generations. And, a great way to ensure that “The Carlton” also gets passed down and never forgotten. Until now, this series has rarely been available to stream. We’ve been hoping Netflix would add this show for years at Netflix Life!
There have also been rumors of a possible reboot or spin-off of this series. And, with this series now streaming, it would be a great time to consider this.
Sex and the City
Carrie and the gang are also now available on HBO Max. This series, along with its two movies, has something for everyone.
From the outrageous fashions to the faithful friendships, Carrie and company bring a bit of glamour into the regular lives of the rest of us and, as the title suggests, sex. They all started as single ladies, and some eventually found the love of their lives.
HBO Max has much to recommend itself regarding its content. The list of shows and movies is lengthy, with more being added in the coming weeks and months. And, as a bonus surprise, HBO Max announced all eight Harry Potter movies as well as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be available on launch day.
