Adam Sandler stars in new Netflix movie, Hustle, produced by LeBron James

Adam Sandler has another basketball movie lined up! This time, it’s a new Netflix movie and it’s produced by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

According to a report from Variety, Sandler will star in the upcoming Netflix original movie Hustle. The film tells the story of a basketball scout, played by Sandler, who finds a prospect overseas and works to bring him to the NBA.

LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment, Happy Madison and Roth/Kirschenbaum Films will produce, according to the report.

This movie might as well be a slam dunk at Netflix! Sports movies are hard to make, but if there’s a team that can bring a story like this to life, I think it’s this group.

Variety reported Taylor Materne and Will Fetters will write the screenplay, while Jeremiah Zagar will direct. The rest of the cast has not been announced.

Sandler has been on quite the streak of good movies lately. Uncut Gems is his best performance yet in a non-comedy. I’m still partial to some of Sandler’s earlier characters in his comedies. Sandler was also very good in Netflix’s The Meyerowitz Stories. 

I also enjoyed Murder Mystery, one of the most popular Netflix movies to date. The film stars Jennifer Aniston and Sandler.

There’s no doubt Sandler is one of the biggest draws on Netflix, and that’s why the streaming network and Sandler keep working together. It’s unclear if this movie is part of Sandler and Happy Madison’s deal with the streaming network. Regardless, Hustle should be one of the most popular movies of the year when it’s released.

After Uncut Gems, Sandler seems more popular than ever. It will be interesting to see if he’s more interested in doing dramas and other genres after performing, almost exclusively, in comedies for most of his career.

If you haven’t seen Uncut Gems yet, you can watch the movie soon! Uncut Gems is coming to Netflix on May 25.

Right now, we don’t know when to expect the film to drop on the streaming service, but it won’t be earlier than sometime in 2021 and it could be much longer than that.
