Spike Lee took to Twitter to announce his new Netflix film, Da 5 Bloods, starring Chadwick Boseman will be released on Netflix this June.

Da 5 Bloods is Spike Lee’s new war drama, and it’s coming to Netflix in June 2020. Lee announced the release date news on Twitter, along with the poster for the film.

Da 5 Bloods stars Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Delroy Lindo (Crooklyn, Malcolm X), Clarke Peters (Harriet), Norm Lewis (Scandal), and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (BlacKkKlansman).

The new Netflix original film is set to be released on June 12, 2020.

After successful films such as BlacKkKlansman, Chi-Raq, Crooklyn, and Malcolm X, I’m excited to see Lee’s new production.

I’m not sure about you, but the last Black war film I sat down and watched was Glory over 10 years ago in Junior High School and for my History class. War films aren’t my thing, but I’m willing to give this one a shot since it’s coming from my man Spike Lee!

Although, I am a little concerned about the release date.

I’m not sure anyone wants to watch a war film in the middle of the Summer, especially with everything going on this year. So I’m not sure why it’s being released during the Summer. Da 5 Bloods seems like it should be more of a fall release, but we’ll see how I feel once the trailer drops.

In the meantime, here’s a first look at the teaser poster.

If you’re wondering what Da 5 Bloods will be about, here’s the synopsis, via Netflix:

"“From Academy Award Winner Spike Lee comes a New Joint: the story of four African-American Vets — Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis), and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) — who return to Vietnam. Searching for the remains of their fallen Squad Leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure, our heroes, joined by Paul’s concerned son (Jonathan Majors), battle forces of Man and Nature — while confronted by the lasting ravages of The Immorality of The Vietnam War.”"

Netflix has not released the trailer for the film, but you can expect to see that in the next month or so!
