Cursed: Netflix shares first look at new series starring Katherine Langford

The first look at Cursed, the new Netflix original series starring 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford, is here. Check out four images and the cover art for the series.

Netflix just shared four photos from their new drama series, Cursed, starring Katherine Langford, Daniel Sharman, Devon Terrell, and Gustaf Skarsgård. The new Netflix original series is set to premiere sometime in the summer of 2020.

According to Netflix, the series is based on the Arthurian legend and follows a young woman who sets out on a quest with Arthur to find Merlin.

I’m super excited to see the beloved Arthurian legend finally spun into a tale that features a woman lead. For centuries, we’ve been told the story through the eyes of a male, and it’s about time a woman finally gets the spotlight.

Of course, Katherine Langford who plays the lead in Cursed agrees.

Here’s what Langford told Refinery 29: 

"“One of the things about the Arthurian legend is that there are very, very few female characters, and if there are female characters, there’s no narrative about them.”"

She continued:

"“It’s telling a story of a true heroine that is capable and strong and not just altering a story because she’s a woman,” she continued. “[It’s] something I wish I’d had growing up.”"

Netflix also shared the first look at the cover art, and we’ve shared that below, as well. And I’m sure you’ll agree that the new Cursed cover art gives us The Witcher vibes!

The new Netflix original series is based on the illustrated novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. The book was released in October of 2019. You still have plenty of time to read the book before the series is released.

We shared the synopsis of the series below, via Netflix:

"Based on the upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther."
