The team behind Orange Is the New Black is bringing Social Distance, a new anthology series about living in social distance, to Netflix.

As most of the world adjusts to social distancing, it was only a matter of time until a show about this came to life. Now, the team that brought Orange Is the New Black to Netflix is bringing Social Distance to Netflix.

The new series will be an anthology series about living in social distance. The entire series will be shot remotely while the actors film themselves.

The show will be remotely directed by Diego Velasco while showrunner Hilary Weisman Graham is using her living room as her set. Graham, Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Blake McCormick are executive producers.

“The experience of social distancing is currently universal, but no individual story is the same. Through a broad spectrum of tales and moments, some seismic and some mundane, we hope to capture a moment in time. And we hope that Social Distance will help people feel closer to one another,” the producers said in a statement you can read in full below.

This sounds really intriguing and I’ll be among the viewers who check it out when released. I’m curious to see how the show will look with the entire production and direction taking place remotely and the actors filming themselves. The series will be scripted so there will be some scripted reality to the series rather than a bare-bones reality show.

But I’m just really curious to see what the creative team will be able to do because their work speaks for themselves with OITNB and GLOW among the hits already on Netflix. With a voyeuristic appeal to the series and the real-life current events leading to the creation of the show, expect Social Distance to be among the top trending titles on Netflix after the release.

As for the Social Distance release date, that’s to be determined following the show announcement. Due to the unique circumstances, that will present obstacles and challenges to bring it completion, but at the same time, it may speed up the process with its stripped-down approach.
