One Day at a Time will have a special animated episode this spring as production on the series has been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tuesday night’s episode of One Day at a Time will be the mid-season finale after production on the Pop TV series was suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic. Other shows and movies have been affected by the pandemic and now it’s hitting one of the best shows currently on TV.
New episodes will resume once production is able to restart, but in the meantime, the show will continue in a different form. That’s right, there will be a fun One Day at a Time animated special coming later this spring, Variety reports.
All the characters will voice their animated counterparts and there’s word of more celebrity guests who will lend their voice to the upcoming special. We just don’t know who they will be, but we are excited to see who they will be.
This is just another great example of how much the show means to the creators, writers and actors who work on the show as well as how much it means to the great fans of the show. After Netflix unceremoniously canceled the series after three seasons, the fans did not let that stand and let their voice be heard. Pop TV heard their voices and saved the show.
One Day at a Time season 4 premiered earlier this spring and while the place we watch has changed, the show remains as great as ever.
“As we all know, it’s hard to keep One Day at a Time off the air,” co-showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett told Variety. “During this unprecedented time, we wanted to find a way to keep our family — on camera and behind the scenes — together and create more entertaining content for our fans who are self-distancing at home. This animated special gives us an exciting opportunity to imagine the Alvarez family in a colorful new way while continuing to tell important and relevant stories.”
You can watch the mid-season finale of One Day at a Time season 4 tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on Pop TV and the simulcast on TV Land. As soon as the release date is set for the One Day at a Time animated special, we’ll be sure to pass along the great news.
The first three seasons of One Day at a Time are on Netflix.
