The Unpurged

One of the first Star Wars stories we want to see on Disney Plus comes from the 2005 comic Star Wars: Purge, illustrating the stories of the lucky few who were fortunate enough to survive Darth Sidious’ Order 66 massacre.

While the comic also illustrates Darth Vader’s rapid descent into madness with each Jedi he murders, Darth Vader’s psyche is a topic that’s long been explored and, arguably, exhausted. What we’d like to see is a show covering the stories of the Jedi Masters and especially young Padawans who managed to escape the clutches of a disturbed Anakin Skywalker.

Not only could this show fill in some blanks about the time of the Jedi between Vader’s rise and his son Luke’s first discovery of The Force, but it would also be an opportunity to dive into the war trauma of adults and children alike. Though the third film implied that Vader’s massacre under Palpatine’s order’s marked the death of the Jedi order, it certainly didn’t mark the extinction of the Jedi as a whole.

This show would be a dark contrast to the happy-go-lucky Disney films and old-school Disney Channel originals available on Disney Plus now, but The Mandalorian had its fair share of unfortunate moments and there’s plenty of family-friendly ways to address trauma and, even more so, the overcoming of it.
