The Lovebirds, starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, is an upcoming romantic comedy coming to Netflix on May 22.

It’s been a few days since Netflix released a great rom-com, so it’s no surprise that another one is coming soon to the streaming service. For fans of the rom-com genre, The Lovebirds, starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani is coming to Netflix on May 22 but the trailer is already here.

The Insecure and Silicon Valley stars play a couple who has their normal life turned upside down when they arrive at the biggest moment in their relationship. Yep, they are accidentally right in the middle of a murder mystery.

Here’s the synopsis for The Lovebirds, courtesy of Netflix:

"A couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night."

The Lovebirds trailer is really great and can be seen in the clip below:

From Paramount Studios, the movie was originally scheduled for a theatrical release in April before the coronavirus pandemic. With theaters closed, the studio shifted gears and that’s where Netflix comes into play. Instead of delaying the release date back as many studios have had to do with the next James Bond movie, Wonder Woman sequel and Shazam 2 just a few of the blockbuster movies that had to postpone their theatrical release.

With The Lovebirds being released on Netflix on May 22, it could open the movie up to a host of potential viewers that would have never seen the movie in the theater. Considering they’re already paying for Netflix and they don’t have to go anywhere in order to watch it, The Lovebirds may find that viewership is actually better than they anticipated with a theatrical release.
