Football Career

Aaron Hernandez shocked all of his friends and family when he made the decision to attend Florida and not the University of Connecticut. His brother was currently playing football at UConn, and his dad also played and attended the university as well.

There were several instances at Florida where Hernandez was seen lashing out. One instance that was talked about in the documentary was at a night club where he was approached by the club manager for not paying his bill. When Aaron was confronted, he sucker-punched the manager directly in the side of the face, rupturing his eardrum.

Luckily for Hernandez, the manager did not press charges.

After attending Florida, Aaron Hernandez was drafted by the New England Patriots. If there is any franchise that could help fix a troubled young man, it was the Patriots. They were known for “The Patriot” way. Basically, what that means is all egos are checked at the door.

It was clear that Hernandez was a top-tier talent. Playing with one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Tom Brady, Hernandez put up numbers that wowed people week to week. The Patriots played in the Super Bowl in 2012 and lost the game, but Hernandez did score a touchdown.

In the documentary, one of Aaron Hernandez’s teammates made the comment that he didn’t build any off-field relationships with any of his teammates, which he found very odd. None of Aaron’s teammates ever question or expected anything out of the ordinary from him. From the owner Robert Kraft to Head Coach Bill Belichick, everybody had nothing but great things to say about Hernandez.

Without knowing anything going on in Hernandez’s life outside of football, the Patriots rewarded him with a 5-year, $40 million dollar contract in 2012.
