Christmas is the perfect holiday to lounge around with your family and stream movies on Disney Plus. Here are 5 good streaming movies to watch on Disney Plus on Christmas Day!

Christmas is here! Disney Plus still feels like a brand new streaming service, and many people may not realize how many Christmas movies are available to watch. The new Disney streaming service has several films filled with the Christmas spirit.

Christmas is a fun time of year, but it can be stressful as well. Whether you need an escape from purchasing gifts or want to watch a comforting movie with your loved ones, Disney Plus has multiple options to select. My recommendations include a beloved animated film, a rom-com, and even a superhero movie.

Here are five Disney Plus movies to enjoy today!

5. Iron Man 3

Every Christmas season, fans of Die Hard question if it’s a Christmas movie or not. Much like Die Hard, Iron Man 3 isn’t an obvious holiday movie. But the entire film occurs during Christmastime.

In the beginning, there’s a tree in Tony’s basement. There’s music playing as he gives Pepper a  gift. There are decorations everywhere, and Tony even references A Christmas Story. The plot is very holiday-oriented, too.

The story touches on many ideas, like how we create our own demons through our mistakes and fears. This idea connects to themes of regret, cruelty, selfishness, facing our past, compromising our ideals, and coping with trauma. Rebirth is a major idea too. The villains regrow limbs, and both the main protagonist and antagonist are metaphorically reborn.

Iron Man 3 is a great movie to watch if you aren’t a fan of the standard holiday movie.

4. While You Were Sleeping

While You Were Sleeping is another film that wasn’t considered a holiday movie until recently.

Sandra Bullock stars as Lucy Moderatz, who has to work over the holidays. During her shift, she saves her crush from an oncoming train. He ends up in a coma in a hospital, and Lucy watches after him. A nurse mistakenly tells the coma guy’s family that Lucy is his fiance. The nurse’s wrong assumption leads to Lucy falling in love with his family.

While You Were Sleeping is full of twinkly lights, cold breaths, and an unexpected romance that will warm even the hardest of hearts. Watch While You Were Sleeping if you want to enjoy a few laughs while soaking in the romantic tidbits.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas seems to confuse fans as well. Is it a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? My thoughts are, why not both?

I love both holidays, and this animated film is a fun watch no matter what time of year. Jack Skellington may be a walking skeleton, but when he stumbles into Christmas Town, he is awestruck by the overall spirit. Jack desires to spread Christmas cheer and take on the role of “Santy Claws.”

That sounds like a Christmas movie to me! Whether you’ve never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas or watched it many times, it’s a great animated option to watch today!

2. Home Alone

Home Alone is one of my all-time favorite holiday movies. Kevin McCallister’s giant family flies to Paris for the holidays. Kevin sleeps through his alarm clock and discovers his house is oddly quiet. His family forgot him, and his mom can’t do anything about it until the plane lands in France. Meanwhile, Kevin has to defend his house from burglars.

Home Alone is the perfect holiday movie filled with family drama, Looney Tunes-style violence, and an abundance of laughter. The first and second Home Alone movies are on Disney Plus right now.

1. Noelle

Noelle is Disney Plus’s first original Christmas movie. The story follows Noelle on her quest to bring her brother Nick back to the North Pole. Without her brother, the big day will be ruined since he’s responsible for delivering presents across the world.

Noelle is purely a Christmas movie. There’s the village, flying reindeer, and Noelle is always wearing very colorful and festive attire. The story is about family, caring for others, and spreading love. Grab the entire family to watch Noelle!

No matter your level of cheer, Disney Plus has a movie you will enjoy today. There are many others to choose from, but if you haven’t seen the five on this list, I would recommend starting with the ones you haven’t watched.

Have a great Christmas Day and happy streaming!
