5 good Disney movies to watch on Christmas Eve
By Verona Jones
5. Santa Clause (1994)
Director: John Pasquin
Writer: Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick
Starring: Tim Allen, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, David Krumholtz, Larry Brandenburg, Mary Gross, Paige Tamada, Peter Boyle, and Judith Scott
The story follows Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), a single father of Charlie. He reads “The Night Before Christmas” before putting Charlie to bed on Christmas Eve, but then he hears a noise on his roof. Outside, he sees a man dressed in a Santa suit on his roof and calls out to the Santa.
Unfortunately, Calvin scares the Santa, who then falls off the roof landing in the snow, but to Calvin’s amazement, the body disappears leaving only the Santa suit behind.
Startled and curious, Calvin notices there is reindeer and a sleigh on his roof and he finds instructions in the suit telling him to put the suit on, which he does. He is suddenly whisked around the world dropping through chimneys and delivering presents.
After, he is flown to the North Pole where he is informed that since he “accidentally” killed Santa, he will now become Santa. He’s introduced to his elves and his new toy store. Calvin refuses to believe any of it and returns home believing it was all a bad dream. The following morning, his hair is now snow-white, and he’s grown a white beard that refuses to be shaved and he’s gaining weight.
What follows is Calvin’s hilarious attempts to understand and deal with the fact that he really is turning into Santa Claus. The Santa Clause is not only a great family movie, but it is hysterical as well.
Disney Plus has plenty of family movies to choose from, but which of these five great movies will you be watching Christmas Eve.
