The first season of the Netflix original series The Witcher starring Henry Cavil hits Netflix on Friday, December 20, 2019. You’ll have to stay up late to binge-watch the series!

The Witcher is coming to Netflix very soon! If you stay up late tonight, you can watch The Witcher on Netflix when it’s added to the streaming service overnight.

Officially, The Witcher premieres at 12:01 a.m. PT on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019. It’s much easier for those in the Pacific time zone to stay up until midnight than it is for others in the US to stay up even later to start their binge-watch.

This might be the show to stay up late to watch, though. There are only eight episodes in the first season, so it’s going to be an all-out sprint to the finish. And, there’s going to be millions of fans streaming this series all over the world opening weekend. I’m guessing it will be Netflix’s biggest show of 2019 not named Stranger Things 3.

The Witcher is based on the stories and characters created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the showrunner of the Netflix original series, which stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra.

The rest of the cast includes Jodhi May, Adam Levy, Emma Appleton, Myanna Buring, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Mimi Ndiweni, and Therica Wilson-Read.

The fantasy series follows Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher, played by Cavill, and his adventures in the world known as The Continent. We’ll also get to meet Ciri, a princess, played by Allan, and a sorceress, Yennefer, played by Chalotra.

While this is a fantasy show that has all the elements we’re used to seeing in fantasy, there’s so much more to it than that. Hissrich told Netflix Life at San Diego Comic-Con that the show is about family, being an outsider and what it means to live in a world where you don’t always fit in.

“It has monsters and has a ton of violence and sex and love and all of the things that we expect from fantasy,” Hissrich said. “But what I would say, too, is that it has, at its core, family and trying to live in the world when you’re an outsider. And, these are things that I think any viewer can relate to.”

That’s an exciting point to enter this story, and I think it will create the foundation for what’s to come in this series. And, we know there’s already more in the works. Netflix has already renewed The Witcher for season 2 prior to the release of the first season. It looks like Netflix is confident they have a hit its hands with this series!

Hissrich also said she envisioned seven seasons of the show at one point. Hopefully, Netflix will stick with the series and let it run as long as Hissrich wants to make a compelling, hit series.

I’m so excited for this series! I’m definitely staying up late to watch the show earlier Friday morning, and I think you should too! If you can, of course…
